a new site and new home…
When lockdown started and all the work slowly begun to dry up I turned to taking photos of my personal life. This is something I do a lot but in the past I rarely posted about it on social media. I would try and keep my Instagram account purely work influenced, keeping the images to cycling related content. I had no work to post about now, so galleries started popping with new images from home.
I have received so many kind messages telling me they are loving the photography diaries, thank you ! It really means a lot!
I have really enjoyed posting this work and it is something I want to keep doing. I have learnt so much about my photography during lockdown and this has lead me to try and locate a decent home for all the images. As the world starts to open up again I am aware that my ten image Instagram gallery may be too much for my account…there are only so many pictures you need to see of my kids or my glass of wine! I do not use Instagram for likes, followers or engagement. It has always been a place for me to home images that I want to share. I take photos for myself outside or work, to help me try creative ideas or just to remain active with the camera. You could argue, “just don’t share the images then…” but I find this hard. Not because I am desperate for people to see the work but it helps me move onto the next batch of images. Releasing work into the wild puts closure on those photos and I never have to look at them again. If I store them up I overthink them and start a whole thought process of where to put them and what if I waste them? Posting them removes all that stress and allows me to concentrate on real work.
I will still post to Instagram, of course but will start reducing galleries! I will probably post a single image with a link in the bio to the latest journal post, which will now home ten or more images for viewing. I will also open up a mailing list that will allow you to receive monthly links to updated posts and summaries. These could be unused images from the Tour de France or a cycling fan gallery or better still behind the scene shots from commercial shoots. I want the content to follow as easily on here as it does on Instagram.
I hope you like the site and I hope you use it. I would really like this to be more than a place to home a portfolio but rather an extension of my social media links.
Thanks and stay tuned…
